Amazing hat, assuming you have the need or like the look
I received one of these as a gift. I spend most of my freetime outdoors, so the gift was pretty thoughtful and appreciated.This hat is amazing. Actually feels sturdy, odd to say about a hat, but that seems to describe it well. Extremely comfortable and easy to wear. In the hand, it is heavy and solid, but when worn it is barely noticable. I typically wear 7 1/2 or 7 5/8 in fitted hats. The 7 5/8 fit me perfectly.I will admit, the style isnt really me. Im more of a baseball hat or wool watch cap kind of guy, but now that I have this I use it. Nothing beats this hat when the sun's beating down on your head or the rain is coming down. It is ventilated just right so your head doesnt get too hot, but is still plenty sturdy enough to keep the sun or rain off your head, neck, and face.Now that Ive been using it a bit, its starting to get that cool 'worn in' look. I think thats one of the cooler things about this hat, Id compare it to a leather...

Best Vacation Hat Ever!
We do quite a lot of vacationing that takes us to sunny, rainy, tropics and the Tilley hat has been a great value. ***Make sure you follow the sizing guidelines!***This hat needs to fit loose, should sit with the crown down on your head but not so loose as to slide around. Try on a sized hat and be able to get a finger or two inside the headband. This will give you the correct Tilley size. The chin/head straps brilliantly hold it on in windy conditions. It floats and has a "secret" pocket in the crown for ID's, room keys, money.

Great hat - with one catch
I love this hat. It is a good design, well made, and durable. If I ever lose it I will get another. The catch is that it really isn't water resistant. It isn't 'waxed cotton' in any sense of the term. Depending where you look the manufacturer says that when the hat loses water resistance to rejuvenate it by putting it in the clothes dryer, or, by spraying the hat it with water-repelling chemicals used for clothing. For me, right out of the box, the hat soaked up water just like any cotton does. So after awhile I treated it with the very oilskin wax that the product description scoffs at ("...no more wax transfer, 'sticky hand' or strong waxy odor..."). I used a traditional reproofing wax sold by 'Filson'. I'd bet that any oilskin reproofing wax would be similar. These oilskin reproofing waxes are the traditional way of waterproofing cloth - and they work quite well. Yes, it is a bit of effort and mess to apply.
