The family that plays together, stays together!
What an incredible story! It was so fun to read. I can not image sitting at the dinner table or riding in a car with that many brothers and sisters. Talk about sharing! How many bicycles did they have? What a loving story of a family that played together and stayed together. I guess there was always a "big brother" to count on!

12 brothers!!!
how come I didn't already know this story? it's about 12 brothers from long branch in new jersey who made their own baseball team! they had this huge family because there were 4 sisters too and the illustrations show them sharing beds and rooms but mostly playing ball. they won championships and were honored by the hall of fame. if they were doing that now i bet they would have their own reality tv show. instead, there's this book and it's really great. the pictures are so good and the story is amazing, but i really still wonder--how come i didn't know this story before now?

Your Baseball-Loving Kid Will Love This Book (and so will you)
This charming book is a treasure. It tells the amazing true story of a 12-brother team that played for years in local team competitions that were common in the early part of the 20th Century. Their play was interrupted by WWII, when six of the brothers served; they all returned home safely to play more ball!. At one time, the oldest brother was 32, the youngest seven. Brother teams were not that unusual in that era of large families...there are 29 recorded baseball teams made up entirely of brothers, and some of these other teams are featured in other baseball books for kids. But this team, the Acerra Brothers, is the only one in Baseball's Hall of Fame, and they were the longest-playing of them all. Seven of the brothers were still alive in 1997, when their team was honored at an induction ceremony in Cooperstown, which they attended, (along with hundreds of relatives & a still-living sister). I don't think I've ever enjoyed a children's book as much as this, or had such happy...

Product Description
The Acerra family had sixteen children, including twelve ball-playing boys. It was the
1930s, and many families had lots of kids. But only one had enough to field a baseball
team . . . with three on the bench! The Acerras were the longest-playing all-brother
team in baseball history. They loved the game, but more important, they cared for
and supported each other and stayed together as a team. Nothing life threw their way
could stop them.
Full of action, drama, and excitement, this never-before-told true story is vividly
brought to life by Audrey Vernick’s expert storytelling and Steven Salerno’s stunning
vintage-style art. Top to learn more
